We know that new curriculum will be concept and competency based. There may be things we still don’t know but this is known. This session will focus on the new directions in curriculum – concept and competency based learning and the draft K-4 curriculum – and help us better understand this. We will also explore the connections between environment, energy, climate change and Indigenous education to better help teachers make these connections too. We will be bringing in folks that are preparing teachers for this new direction to provide their expertise and guidance. You will spend most of your time focusing on how to better align your progam(s) with new curriculum. In this workshop, you will…
- Understand concept and competency based curriculum (using competency cards developed with the Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium).
- Review K-4 draft curriculum.
- Be empowered to make connections between environment, energy, climate change and Indigenous education to better support teachers.
- Work with other environmental and energy educators to discuss beginning steps to align your program(s) with new curriculum.
