Ciclomanías and Nature's Ride: Classroom Programs

Description:

Based in Calgary, Nature's Ride and Ciclomanías provide workshops and Nature Theatre to classrooms, events, and birthday parties. Visit their website to learn more and book a workshop.

Nature Theatre: Interactive and fun activities with our collection of environmental education children’s books, available in English and Spanish.

Vermicomposting Workshop: Learn how worms can get rid of your kitchen waste or leftover food from your lunchbox and make an organic fertilizer for a garden or flowerpots. Meet some of the incredible organisms that are an important part of the soil. Join us for an amazing hands-on learning experience that will set the foundations and motivation to start a vermicomposting bin for the classroom or home.

Upcycling Workshop: Make a craft out of recycled materials such as corrugated cardboard and plastic bottles. Pick one of the characters from Nature Theatre or a favourite craft available. Create an earth friendly momentum that can be recycled at the end of its life.

Biodigester in a Bottle Workshop: In this workshop learn how biogas is generated using organic waste.  Describe the features of a biodigester and identify the feedstock that is used.  Build a biodigester for the class using plastic bottles and household materials.

Visit the Ciclomanías website to learn more about sustainability and social responsibility, and check out their online store of recycled crafts and do-it-yourself kits.

“Schools should prepare us for the future, not the past. The future of the world will be built on sustainability. If we learn what sustainable technologies are available when we are in school, we will be able to help shape the future of global sustainability when we graduate.”

- Quinn, student at Jasper Place high school in Edmonton
