If so, join us for an online information session to learn more about Calgary Schools for Climate Action - a brand new initiative by ACEE in partnership with the City of Calgary, both major Calgary school boards, and EcoSchools Canada.

At ACEE, we are working to find the best ways to support students, parents, teachers, and environmental education providers in the face of COVID-19 and we want to know how we can best support you!

We are hosting an informal, virtual gathering of environmental education providers from across Alberta to discuss: how COVID-19 has impacted you and your organization, share what new resources and online programming are available, identify potential areas for collaboration, ask each other questions, and how ACEE can support you during this time!

The virtual gathering will take place on Wednesday, May 6, from 1-2:30PM. The Zoom meeting link and password will be emailed to you upon registration.

In March, we held a series of workshops asking this very question - ‘What should students learn about energy - environment and climate?’ We’ve summarized what we heard into a Summary Document. In May, we will be using this information to update the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future to ensure it is current in addressing these topics. Volunteers from the workshops have agreed to help review the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future before we share this with Alberta Education and stakeholders to ensure these ideas become part of the new curriculum.

GreenLearning has developed a May calendar chocked full of simple activities, all of which are related to their many programs. This month, each week has a theme related to a specific GreenLearning program. These activities are designed for learning at home. The goal is to provide parents and families with enough activities to generate some useful learning outcomes all while keeping kids busy and entertained during the COVID-19. We have a rich bank of resources that can be sorted by grade, subject, and topic. Many of these resources are videos and web activities that can be easily engaged with  home learning. 

Join fellow newcomers to gardening and ask your questions! Each virutal meet-up features a short presentation on a topic from a local expert and a Q & A to follow.

UNEP and TED-Ed – with the support of a variety of educators and partner organizations – recently launched Earth School. The free online platform consists of 30 days of nature-focused content and environmental adventures for learners of all ages, in the lead up to World Environment Day on June 5th. 

Inside Education is supporting teachers during school closures in three ways: webinar Wednesdays, digital resources, and virtual classroom presentations.

We've updated the site with connections to current Alberta high school Science and Social curriculum to be an even better resource! 

We've launched a Facebook page and group to accompany the website and to encourage questions and discussion. We'll be hosting three Facebook live/ video conference calls in May and early June for supplemental learning.

The new "Home Edition" of H2Whoa! empowers students to conserve and protect our precious water resources!

Fully funded, the H2Whoa! program helps you: Engage kids in learning through fun arts and game-based activities, meet AB's curriculum standards for Grades 2-6, integrate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives with content developed in collaboration with Indigenous elders, culture keepers, and artists, and save time with daily live webcasts led by our actor educators!

BONUS: Live webcasts also feature tips and tools to help your students stay healthy and safe during COVID, including our Superhero Calming Breath!

The CPAWS Education team has compiled their best resources for parents and teachers for home based learning in the Bring Nature Home Toolkit. 

Also, the CPAWS Action Challenge is still running and classes, families, and youth groups can submit green actions until June 30th! 

School programs have been adapted for an online experience. Send students the registration link below so they can experience our programs free at home. Webinars are taking place May 25, 26, and 28. 

Green Calgary is sharing weekly curriculum-linked activities for a range of ages, focusing on waste, recycling and living a sustainable life. Each day, a different activity will teach about that week's topic! Download the materials at the start of the week and teach throughout. Each week focuses on a different theme and includes a mix of curriculum-focused and craft activities to engage the whole family. So far, six weeks of activities have been posted!
