Hi , Did you know that wetlands cover nearly 20% of Alberta? Wetlands serve many important functions, including providing habitats for birds, plants and animals, filtering and storing water, and even storing carbon! These incredible biomes offer countless hours of exploration and endless learning opportunities. We have three fun activities to help you get started - check them out below! Some important notes: 1. BE SAFE. The safety of your children lies with you, not with us! Water bodies are inherently hazardous to young children: It is essential that you choose study areas with very gently sloping bottoms, and NEVER leave your children unattended in such areas. 2. Wetland study offers particularly strong connection to the science curriculum for grades 2, 5 and 7 level - we feel that every child deserves to experience the wonder of nature, and wetlands offer you that doorway into the world of weird mini beasts! Do you need to know the names of all these creatures? Heck, no! Get your kids to practice or observation skills and use an identification guide or key to learn more about what they discover. Please share this with any teachers and parents that you think may find this useful. To be the first to receive this content, click here to subscribe to our parent newsletter. |
