Welcome to 2021! To ring in the new year, we are excited to bring you a treasure trove of resources to support your efforts to make your school an EcoSchool. Our January calendar is filled with helpful after-school mini-sessions to get you started and our new Show & Tell sessions will allow you to learn from other teachers' experiences. What's New?

Local Resources for Teachers

In collaboration with our environmental education partners, we have compiled a list of local resources for Calgary teachers that specifically support EcoSchools actions. Resources include field trips, classroom visits, lesson plans, videos and online activities.

Hand-in Hand: Working Together Toward a Sustainable Calgary

Coming up in February, a two-day environmental symposium presented with the City of Calgary at the Calgary City Teachers’ Convention (Feb. 11-12). Session details are now available.

Intro to EcoSchools Webinar

EcoSchools just released a series of informative webinars including Intro to Ecoschools! as well as several how-to guides for navigating the EcoSchools Certification Application (ECA) on-line platform.

Over the summer a creative group of student leaders collaborated virtually to create a vision for Alberta schools for the year 2030 that includes more environmental and climate change education. Under the guidance of artist Hannah Gelderman, these students wrote the script, narrated, and created the art.

Watch this video with your students and get them to express their own vision for the future through art, music, poetry or other means. Then, consider how EcoSchools Canada's 40 actions can help make their dreams a reality.

Sustainability Review

Once you have registered onto the EcoSchools on-line platform, a great place to start is to complete the Sustainability Review. This will help you review the menu of 40 actions and start building an EcoPlan that is specifically tailored to your school.
