Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden field trips include a horticultural experience learning about the plants and trees of Nikka Yuko. 

WILD Outside is a new conservation-based youth leadership program run by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF). Learning from CWF facilitators alongside their peers, youth who join the WILD Outside program will connect with other participants by exploring the outdoors and planning and carrying out community-based conservation action projects in their own community. We welcome young people from all communities and from many different walks of life and varying experiences.

Outside of our core group of youth (grades 10-12), our Youth Leadership Specialists can work with your school or class to plan and carry out a conservation project that your students are interested in. These projects are open to students from K-12 in all topics of study. We can also come into your class to talk about our programs and run some curriculum programming. 

The programs help the Okotoks education community address sustainability issues and give students, teachers, administrators, and staff the ideas and resources necessary to take initiative at four levels of action: in the classroom, in the school, in the community, and in the home. The Town of Okotoks offers both field trip opportunities and educational presentations for kids and youth of all ages. From waste management solutions to caring for the Sheep River watershed, kids will learn about their impact on the earth and how to be mindful caregivers of our planet.

The City of Airdrie, Waste and Recycling Services (WRS) provides schools, homes and community groups with educational opportunities that teach sustainable waste management behaviour that can help reduction and diversion efforts. 

WRS provide in-class and online presentations, including Recycling (Gr. 3-6), Circular Economy (Gr. 5+), and What Happens in Our Community (Gr. 2), which takes a look at what happens at the Airdrie Recycle Depot. 

There are also activities available to do pre, post or on their own by request. Topics include food waste reduction, home waste audit, and an eco-art challenge. Contact the City of Airdrie, Education Coordinator for more information; education@airdrie.ca 

YMCA Camp Riveredge has developed a program for students in grades 1-6 to fit alongside the Alberta curriculum. In this program we can assist educators in teaching the life cycle, magnetism, colour and much more!

Ag for Life has a full teacher resource page with videos, activities, lesson plans, and online educational tools. There are materials specific to elementary, junior high, and high school audiences. Topics include food, food waste, careers, sustainable development goals, STEAM, and tech & innovation in agriculture. 

Learn where your food comes from and why agriculture is important in the Classroom Agriculture Program. Volunteers are agriculture experts and will engage students in agriculture through a variety of curricular connections. Visit the website to book a presentation. 

The Alberta Prairie Conservation Forum has several educational programs, including educational materials and the Deep Roots educational videoconference, a 60-minute video conference offered to Grades 4-7 classes.

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park offers a variety of school programs from K-12, including an overnight school group program for Grades 4-9. 

Farmers 2050 is a game designed to help students answer the question: How will we sustainably feed nearly 10 billion people by the year 2050?

In the game, students become farmers, learn about careers in agriculture, and how innovations in technology and practices can help guide us towards a more sustainable future. 

Journey 2050 is an elearning program that provides lessons and activities to go along with the game. Guest speakers are available to visit classes and field trips are available toschools in the Calgary area.
