Ghost Watershed Alliance Society offers in-class presentations and facilitates field trips focused on watershed education for students in Calgary and Area. Programs promote stewardship of Alberta’s important headwaters by giving students opportunities to investigate models, visit the Ghost River and participate in citizen-science.

The Hot Planet, Cool Athletes program brings high profile athletes (Olympians, Professional Action Sports Athletes, etc.) into high schools for presentations (preferably a school-wide assembly) tied to provincial climate change curriculum. The presenting athletes provide an interactive presentation, sharing their story and connection to the issue as well as presenting the latest in climate science. The goal of the presentation is to leave students with a clear challenge around climate action. Visit the website to learn more and book a presentation for your school.  

The program was developed by the Centre for Climate Change at the University of Waterloo and is available at no cost to schools thanks to their partners including MEC, Arc'teryx, Patagonia, Clif Bar and others. 

Located near Hinton, William A. Switzer Provincial Park provides field trip programs and in-class presentations for Grades K-6. Topics include wetlands, forests, art, animals, and bugs. 

The interactive, inquiry-based programs at the Jurassic Forest and Learning Centre will take students and teachers back in time to discover prehistoric flora and fauna, while highlighting the beauty and diversity of the modern forest ecosystem. The educational programs at Jurassic Forest were designed to meet Alberta Curriculum science and social studies targets for Grades 1-7. 

The Canadian Energy Museum offers school tours with programs aimed at different grade levels. You can also download program kits on geology and energy topics. The kits come complete with lesson plans, curriculum links, powerpoint presentations, videos, and activities.​

Girls on Ice Expeditions take place in remote wilderness environments every summer for 12 days and are open to girls age 16-17 to apply. They are tuition-free and interweave science, art, and wilderness travel to inspire future leadership, curiosity, confidence, and success.

 

The Leg Up Foundation Education Program, in partnership with Nutrien, presents the GROWING THE NEXT GENERATION© School Tours Education Program. The school tours program features highly interactive sessions geared toward the grades 4-6 curriculum that focus on agriculture, wetland ecosystems, horse anatomy, horse health and welfare, equine history and the importance of bees to our ecosystem.

Programs take place in May and June each year.

Butterfly Wings n' Wishes Ltd has a variety of critter kits for your classroom. Larvae Kits can be pre-ordered for the Spring anytime throughout the year, and preordering is recommended.  Kits do not include a habitat for the adult butterflies and must be ordered separately.

Butterfly Wings and Wished Ltd also offers in-classroom programs! Outreach programs include an up-close and personal experience with 7-10 animals, a mix of native and exotic rescue species. Topics covered are conservation, needs of the animals, ecological interactions, our effect on wildlife, and what we can do to help. 
Classes are one hour long, and program attendance is capped at 30 people.

  • AquaZone - Full day program (four sessions) or half day program (two sessions) can accommodate up to 30 students per session and includes two staff, a selection of artifacts and live marine invertebrates.
  • AquaKits - Standalone kits ready for use in your classroom complete with lesson plans, rented per day of use plus transportation costs to and from your location.
