Environment and Energy Education Intern - ACEE

The Alberta Council for Environmental Education is seeking a young professional for its Environmental and Energy Education Intern position. This position will provide a wide range of opportunities to network and engage with the many environmental and energy educators (including both teachers and program providers) in Alberta. You will support both of our Senior Education Advisors and Executive Director in their work (reporting directly to the ED). This will include  a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) developing strategies and tools for engaging Calgary schools in climate action and utilizing your understanding of climate change and climate action for polling youth to determine their climate and energy literacy. You will also assist with sharing information about these initiatives through our communication efforts (website, social media, newsletters, workshops). You will also support marketing and promotions of our annual conference and other events. The candidate will provide support in the following areas:

  • Calgary Schools for Climate Action initiative - a program designed to engage Calgary’s school community in climate action that ties into the city’s new Climate Resilience Strategy
  • Marketing and promotion for the 2020 Recharge conference
  • Youth polling to determine youth’s climate and energy literacy
  • Exploring climate and energy narratives with Alberta students
  • Supporting the Executive Director on strategic aspects of our work including fund development
  • Creating a provincial alliance leading to a provincial summit in April 2020
  • Regular communications (social media, newsletter)

Qualifications

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree in Education (sciences) or Environmental Sciences with an interest in environmental education
  • Understanding of climate change and climate action (including energy transition and energy efficiency) to bring to various aspects of our work
  • Strong interpersonal, speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to organize, communicate and support meetings with various stakeholders
  • Some experience with promotions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Drive
  • Comfortable learning new technology (Client Relationship Management database and web site)
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age and must meet all UNAC criteria
  • Location: Calgary

Start Date: October 14, 2019 (or as close to that date as possible)

End Date: January 31, 2020

This must be a full-time position and we are hoping to extend the position for at least another 5 months or longer.
