The period of work coincides with the regular academic year (September – June) and amount of work and hours are flexible within the funding available. Programs offered by this position are for kindergarten to grade 6 level classes and mirror those programs also offered by Alberta Parks Staff. Full Job Description
The Learning Naturally Program Coordinator manages all aspects of the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society’s Learning Naturally program. This program represents a significant commitment to providing curriculum-connected science and social studies programs to students Kindergarten through Grade 6. The Program Coordinator works with schools, bussing companies, Park and Friends’ staff as part of the school programming occurring at the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre and the Bow Valley Ranch Visitor Centre.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
1. Delivers school programs at the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre (FCELC) and the Bow Valley Ranch Visitor Centre in Fish Creek Provincial Park
- Book programs with schools
- Book busses for program days
- Ensure all necessary program materials and equipment are ready for use
- Greet the groups and orient them to their field study day
- Review the procedures for the field study and address any last minute questions or concerns from the teachers
- Guide the classes through program activities as required, explain procedures to students and circulate among the small groups, assisting, answering questions and providing additional information
- Check the equipment before the group leaves ensuring all has been returned in good condition
- Manage all aspects of reporting as required to the separate funding agencies
- Prepare a Summary Report at the end of the school year. This will be submitted in July or August to the FFCPPS and park staff
- Maintain a detailed record of the schools that attend the programs: the names of the schools and teachers who attended and the number of students and adult volunteers who participated that day.
- Track, record and supply relevant statistics to FFCPPS Executive Director and Park Staff as required
- The Coordinator will be involved in fundraising for the program
- The Coordinator must show willingness and flexibility to attend meetings and planning sessions with the Fish Creek Environmental Education team and the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society, in order to be an integral part of the planning and scheduling of the Environmental Education Program within Fish Creek Provincial Park;
2. Assist other FCELC staff with the operations of the FCELC.
