April 28, 2021
Throughout April, 5 AYLEE members collaborated to write an opinion editorial outlining why they believe climate change and energy education needs to be incorporated into the Alberta curriculum. The writing team consisted of:
- Chloe MacGregor, Grade 12, Calgary
- Isiri Jayathilake, Grade 11, Calgary
- Logan Mitchell, Grade 10, Calgary
- Sasha Adamova, Grade 9, Calgary
- Sneha Rose Jigo, Grade 12, Lacombe
Published in the Calgary Herald, the op-ed states:
"In order to properly address this crisis, young people must be provided with the education to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare themselves for their futures. Unfortunately, as we ourselves can attest from our personal experiences in Alberta’s education system, not once has climate change, or the topics surrounding it, been adequately instructed upon."
