Meeting with the Alberta Minister of Education - March 3, 2020
AYLEEE members met with the Alberta Minister of Education Adriana LaGrange at the Legislature Building in Edmonton in early March. Students from Lacombe Composite High School and Queen Elizabeth High School (Edmonton) presented their ideas of how to incorporate more environmental leadership opportunities into schools.
Lead the Energy Transition - February 27, 2020
4 AYLEEE members from Lacombe Composite High school presented in Red Deer at the Lead the Energy Transition event hosted by the Solar Energy Society of Alberta and the Pembina Institute. The youth shared with the crowd their stories and experiences with energy education and the importance of energy literacy in Alberta schools.
Calgary City Teachers' Association Convention 2020 - February 13, 2020
AYLEEE member Amaan, from Queen Elizabeth High School in Calgary, gave an amazing presentation to over 70 teachers on the need for climate change education in Alberta. Speaking on a panel titled Climate Change Here and Now: Making Sense of it All, Amaan provided a unique student perspective that the teachers said was wonderful and inspirational!
Calgary Climate Symposium - Climate Change Panel Discussion with Young Calgarians - November 6, 2019
Two students from Robert Thirsk High School in Calgary had the opportunity to present to 200+ attendees and speak on a panel alongside other passionate Calgary youth at the Calgary Climate Symposium's Climate Change Panel Discussion with Young Calgarians. During the panel discussion, the youth were asked to give the audience one piece of advice and Gillian from AYLEEE stated "Have hope, we can make a difference if we put our minds to it."
Recharge Conference - May 24, 2019
15 AYLEEE students attended ACEE’s 2019 Recharge Conference for Environmental and Energy Education. Three students presented as plenerary speakers on the importance of environmental education in front of 233 teachers and educators! As a group, they showcased their environmental and energy education initiatives that demonstrate environmental leadership to the conference attendees to show powerful and impactful environmental education.
Ecotrust Environmental Gathering
April 5, 2019 - Students presented to 100+ attendees at the Ecotrust Environmental Gathering about the imperative of including youth in all types of organizations and governance.
Edmonton Thought Leaders Forum - November 30, 2018
Three students from Westwood School in Fort McMurray had the opportunity to present and participate in the Edmonton Thought Leaders Forum. At the Forum, they presented to 100 educational decision-makers, built knowledge around the Alberta school system, and gained understanding behind government-level decision making. Students also had the opportunity to speak with the Minister of Education and ask about barriers to environmental education in the province.
Calgary Thought Leaders Forum - November 23, 2013
Five students from the Calgary area participated in and presented at the Calgary Thought Leaders Forum on Environmental and Energy Education and Sustainability. They presented to over 100 educational decision-makers, networked, and engaged in facilitated discussions so that they could build a greater understanding of both the Alberta school system and Alberta government-level decision making. The students advocated for the power of environmental education by sharing the impact environmental education has had on their lives. Their participation in the event was received as the “highlight of the day” by attendees who expressed being deeply moved by the students.
Change for Climate, Festival of Youth Voices - February 27, 2018
After collaborating virtually for three months, students from Alberta and around the world came together and shared their climate change stories and recommendations with fellow students, Edmontonian's, decision-makers and leaders at the Change for Climate, Festival of Youth Voices. As part of their collaboration, AYLEEE representatives also participated in writing the International Youth White Paper on Climate Change Education and Cities. Presentation to Expert Working Groups - January 13, 2017
Quinn McKinney represented the AYLEEE students' in a presentation to Alberta Education's Curriculum Expert Working Groups. She received many accolades and from what we heard, she wowed the Expert Working Groups. This was one of Quinn's first times speaking in front of a large group. Exploring the links between energy efficiency, schools and K-12 education in Alberta - September 16, 2016
ACEE worked with the Alberta government to convene a session for students, teachers, non-profit organizations, trustees and other education stakeholders. It was an opportunity to share expertise and ideas with Alberta's Energy Efficiency Panel on how to weave together energy efficiency and education in Alberta.
