Recreation Technician II - City of Edmonton


Use your administrative, organizational and leadership skills to enthusiastically support engaging and educational experiences for guests at our facilities. As the Education Program Assistant, you will: 

  • Perform administrative tasks related to programming such as managing inclusion documentation for participants, coordinating youth and adult volunteers and preparing packages for staff and participants 
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with Inclusion and Volunteer Coordinators to ensure accuracy in procedures and participant information for programs 
  • Inventory, purchase, maintain and deliver program supplies, artifacts and equipment which includes travel to and from businesses and between city facilities using your personal vehicle 
  • Assist with training and supervision of interpretation staff including formal training sessions, individual mentoring and evaluation throughout the season 
  • Assist with training and supervision of youth and adult volunteers 
  • Provide excellent customer service to our colleagues and visitors
  • Facilitate natural and human history interpretive programs and special event activities 
  • Provide back-up support to other units such as Education and Special Events

Qualifications

  • Completion of the first year of a recognized post-secondary degree or diploma; preference will be given to recreation, museum, history, biology, education-based or related program 
  • Minimum one year direct experience conducting related natural history interpretation, recreational, cultural or educational programs 
  • Previous supervisory experience with staff and volunteers is an asset 
  • Strong organizational, time management and customer service skills 
  • Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication as well as inter-personal skills 
  • Knowledge of local history and flora/fauna 
  • Comfortable and confident handling and working around small animals, insects, amphibians and reptiles 
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business 

Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton 
Must be available to work: April 20-24 & April 27- May 1 (Staff Training)
