Walking Together is a resource developed for teachers to help increase their understanding of Indigenous perspectives. Topics include Traditional Environmental Knowledge and Connection to Land. The guide can be worked through at your own pace and includes interactive elements and video interviews with speakers bringing a range of perspectives, including Kainai, Dene, Woodland Cree, Plains Cree, Métis, Nakoda, and more. 

Learning Inside Out is a seven-week course of activities curated from the LSF's Resources4Rethinking database, with themes from the Step Outside Nature Guides and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which cover everything from climate change to equity. Different activities are listed for different age groups from K-12.

Climatescience.org provides online courses, books for children, powerpoint presentations, and lesson plans! All created and vetted by experts in the field of climate change science.

The Alberta Hunter Education Instructors' Association provides free, downloadable and printable workbooks and videos for all ages on a variety of topics, including:

  • Junior Wildlife 
  • Know Your Knots 
  • Survival Kit Essentials 
  • Tick Awareness 
  • Map and Compass Basics 

Wetlands 101 features eleven 5-7 minute videos regularly updated with the most current information about wetlands and Alberta’s policies. Students will receive a certificate of completion for obtaining a minimum of 80% on each of the chapter quizzes. Alternatively, students have the option of taking the course for “fun” with no evaluations after viewing each video. So sit back, plug in your headphones, and get ready to learn about some of Alberta’s most valued ecosystems!

Ask Nature provides a variety of biomimicry and engineering unit plans, lesson plans, and design challenges. The website also features professional development online courses to help teachers embark on design challenges with their students. 

Farmers 2050 is a game designed to help students answer the question: How will we sustainably feed nearly 10 billion people by the year 2050?

In the game, students become farmers, learn about careers in agriculture, and how innovations in technology and practices can help guide us towards a more sustainable future. 

Journey 2050 is an elearning program that provides lessons and activities to go along with the game. Guest speakers are available to visit classes and field trips are available toschools in the Calgary area.

Developed in partnership by NASA and Salish Kootenai College, Living Landscapes contains valuable learning units for teaching high school students about climate change and its impact on Indigenous communities. The resource also contains a ten-episode video series explaining the impacts of climate change on Indigenous communities through the eyes of two high school students. 

In the high school learning unit, students can select a region to explore the climate science of that region. Although the regions are in the United States, the resource still provides valuable insight on the ways in which climate change impacts land and culture.

Solar in the Schools provides 10 free lessons complete with videos, readings, quizzes exercises and discussion forums. The lessons are written at the high school level with lessons in energy efficiency, solar thermal, solar electric, wind, microhydro, renewable energy in the developing world and the economics of renewable energy. Climate change resources can also be found on the webpage. 

 

Design Our Climate- explore strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a scientifically-reviewed interactive simulation to help make informed choices about electricity, transportation, land use, buildings, and materials

Visualizing and Understanding the Science of Climate Change is a series of 9 online lessons/activities that teach students about the chemistry of climate change, impacts of climate change, climate feedback loops, effects on oceans, and responding to climate change. 

Isotopes Matter is an online interactive resource which includes a new IUPAC interactive periodic table of the isotopes and demonstrates how applications of isotopes relate to sustainability.
