Alberta Curriculum Links

Is it possible for teachers to weave more environmental and sustainability education into their everyday practice while delivering on the current curriculum?  The answer is a resounding YES! The current Alberta curriculum provides ample opportunity to make connections with the following sustainability themes:

  • Nature and place
  • Indigenous perspectives
  • Climate change
  • Municipal environmental and climate action plans and strategies (general framework coming soon)

Alberta Resources to Support EcoSchools Actions

Are you looking for support in implementing actions for EcoSchools certification?  Alberta's environmental education community offers a rich array of resources and supports such as lesson plans, videos, on-line activities, field trips and classroom visits.  For your convenience, we've organized these amazing resources by theme and EcoSchool action.

Youth-Led Mentoring

Access youth-led mentoring through the Alberta Youth Leaders for Environmental Education (AYLEE) - and expand your students’ network. Many of our AYLEE members have worked on action projects before, such as vermicomposting and energy efficiency, and they would love to share their expertise with you and your students!

K-6 teachers, and students of all grades can access AYLEE mentorship by joining their Mentoring Slack channel. Via Slack, you and/or your students will be able to ask AYLEE members questions about your project and receive tips, recommendations, and resources. If you're interested in this opportunity, use this form to be added to the Mentoring Slack channel! (If you've never used Slack before, we're happy to walk you through it!)

Grade 7-12 teachers, encourage your students to become a mentor: Grade 7-12 students and teachers can expand their EcoSchools experience by joining AYLEE. This year, AYLEE offers three levels of involvement for youth: Movers, Shakers, and Change Makers. Click here to learn more about AYLEE.
