The Fish in Schools (FinS) program provides students and teachers across Alberta with access to unique educational tools – live fish – that support the exploration of science and nature topics in the classroom. From January through May, students and teachers gain first-hand knowledge on how to maintain fish health. Over 5 months, you’ll care for and observe the development of 65 rainbow trout – from egg to alevin to fry – before releasing your fish into a provincially-approved waterbody. Through this work, students and teachers uncover the pressures facing Alberta’s water, aquatic habitats and fisheries, and consider their role in maintaining these precious natural resources for future generations.
